VVCAL blanket in green palette – A very green post :)

With my trusty KnitPicks Palette yarn, I’ve started a new Vibrant Vintage CAL blanket. You may remember this CAL from January – August 2016 – the Facebook Group has nearly 4000 members! You can find the 33 free granny square patterns in PDF format at Ravelry or at the post linked above.  In the meantime, check out this spiffy green version! Palette yarn is awesome and as the name suggests, there are a ton of colors – and some are even heathered.  I made one tester square to see what hook I was going to use – Size E! Then I had a serious planning sesh for my chosen squares – the recipient wants mostly three dimensional squares instead of flat ones. And some joining in progress! You can see a bunch of join options on the VVCAL main page linked above, or look through all the joining methods I show on my site. Or to see what some IG crafters have already done by browse the #VVCAL hashtag on Instagram. Looking forward to showing y’all …

Painted Hexagons

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, then you probably know that I have an obsession with a certain six-sided shape. I love creating them, and then coming up with the half-motif to fill the sides, and deciding how I’ll fill in the zig-zag sides to square it all off. The whole process is so much fun to me. And hexies are just tops! Over the years, I’ve designed several hexagon blankets, and then made some joining methods to go along with them. Browse my website with a search for the word “Hexagon” and you’ll see it all! This crochet pattern is now also available for free on my blog! Want the yarn kit to make this blanket? Click here to see it in my storefront! (affiliate link) Painted Hexagons (Rav link) remains one of my favorite hexie patterns. I dug it out of the vault and grabbed the leftover cotton basket that I used for the original. I used RICO Creative Cotton, Patons Grace, and some Annie’s size 3 thread. Basically all the …

Birthday Blankets: Something old into something new :)

Who remembers that Sesame Street song??? I just knew it would be on YouTube, and yep! Go ahead… you know you wanna watch it 🙂 Today I’m getting into this spirit by turning some (111!) squares that I made last year into 2 blankets for my little cousins on their birthday. They’re 4 years apart, but born on the same day! Wowzers! Here are some old photos of the squares I’m using today. They are the extra pattern tester squares, photo model squares, etc.. from the Vibrant Vintage CAL that I hosted in 2016 using Stylecraft Special DK (affiliate) – All 33 square designs are represented here and I love these squares enough to frog all the edging and joining and give them new life as a pair of birthday blankets. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Here is what my living room looks like at the moment: I’ve frogged most of the edging and joining of the squares that were previously joined up for tutorials and what-not. 48 of the squares have a DC round of edging already on them. …

Namaste Chunky pattern

Pattern is now available! On Ravelry, Craftsy, and LoveKnitting (coming soon!)  See the blog post for this design for more info on the backstory of the name, and the recommended yarns. All yarns that I used for the sample are listed in the pattern.  Enjoy making this 5ft mandala blanket and meditating in the center! Perfection! Oooh the issue of exercise and weight and food and body image and wrinkly tummy skin and junk in the proverbial trunk. We all go through these struggles in one way or another, and Namaste Chunky is my way of saying I accept and love my body and all its curves. It’s like “so are you doing yoga to lose weight?” – “Umm, Namaste Chunky – I just love yoga.” 😁  And I do love yoga! Doing Yoga with Adriene at night has been a life changer. If you really listen to what she says and balance, and actually “focus on your breathing” and lay on the floor when you’re done, just staring at the ceiling, I promise you …

Make it in Scheepjes Colour Crafter for a wide variety of colors and a super snuggly blanket. You can search “Hello Kitty Crochet Chart” online, and find the chart on several blogs, or for quick reference, I have saved it below.. Here is my cat face 🙂  For the hexagon addition to work, you need to be sure you have 4 “forehead” stitches, and 6 stitches total for each ear – 3 “up the ear” and 3 “across the ear.” Locate the stitch to the right of the four “forehead” stitches. My hook is through that stitch in the photo below. Attach yarn and (SC, Chain 2, Treble, Chain 1, DC) all in that stitch. DC in 4 “forehead” stitches, and all in next stitch: …

Cottage Quilt: NEW Pattern

See pattern in my Etsy Shop and on Ravelry Pattern includes: Motif and half-motif (flower hexagon) How to join hexagons using my method Striped corner Lace border Instructions to increase blanket size from 28×34″ to any dimensions I’ve always had a huge love for hexagons, but the Cottage Quilt pattern idea came about when three thought paths crossed each other in my mind.: 1) I started getting obsessed with making half-hexagon motifs. 2) Designing crochet blankets that resemble quilts was a big creative outlet for me. 3) The incredible @sewrayme (sewrayme.co.uk) Instagram feed made me fall in love with floral fabric paired with stripes. <3 So, this design was born! It took me about a year to finally put it all together and it went through a lot of back-to-the-drawing-board phases before I could really write the pattern. Now, all I want to do is add a striped corner on all my hex designs! This pattern will show you how to add a striped corner to any hexagon blanket if you make the “corner cutout” using …
