2024 VVCAL: Sunflower Motif

Hello, and a huge welcome to Week 3 of the 2024 Vibrant Vintage Crochet-A-Long (VVCAL)! I’m so glad you’re here! I love spending this time with the VVCAL community! We are going to have so much fun relaxingly working through these motifs each week.

Attention!

If you have not yet seen the Week 3 Instruction post, please head there first and see the instructions for the version that you are working. Below, you will find the Sunflower Motif, in US, and UK Terms, Chart, Video, and Step by step photos.

Ode to Flowers: Sunflower

Enjoy a small reflection on one of this week’s featured flowers.

From Florigraphy: An illustrated Guide to the Victorian Language of Flowers, by Jessica Roux, 2020:

From Ode to Flowers: A Celebration of the Poetry of Flowers, by Samuel Carr, 2013:

From The Language of Flowers: The Floral Offering, a Token of Affection and Esteem, Comprising the Language and Poetry of Flowers (A Scholar Select), by Henrietta Dumont, 1851:

(Dumont chose poets who considered the Sunflower as a symbol of false riches, due to its gold coloring.)

I highly recommend these books if you can get your hands on them! I found mine second-hand. They will change your perspective on flowers with their thoughtful poetry and insights.
