Hello, gorgeous crafter! Today I’m revealing something deeply personal: My enormous WIP pile. I used to be that person who finished every project, but these days, raising four growing kiddoes, writing a book, and trying to find quiet time for my husband and myself, I am more like a person who photographs projects so that they look finished, and then relegating them to the WIP shelf of shame.
So, let me bare all, here in this blog post, the 19 projects of my WIP pile. These projects are in various stages of completion, and there’s even an unpublished pattern here! As I finish them, the completed project will be up for sale, and I may group them up into a little sale periodically, so y’all don’t get sick of me peddling my wares.
I list the 19 projects below, with a few photos for each one and pattern/yarn information as well, because I know some will be wanting that info. Expect a full blog post with all the details and progress/finished photos as I complete each one. Thank you for holding me accountable!
Gloria Blanket
Visual interest abounds with this beautiful piece. Made to replicate intricate Spanish tiles, this blanket will be the conversation piece of any room. A main Quarter Mandala Square and an accent Snowflake Square come together, joined with a narrow method, and then a simple border is added.

- Metropolis 50g balls for background color – WoolWarehouse
This color range is fantastic, and I cannot wait to put this one together! It is so close to being done – a project that is 5 years in the making.

–
Just looooooook at some of the motifs laid out. You can see why I’m so stoked! I may be working on this one sooner rather than later.

2024 VVCAL Blanket
Next up, we have one of several 2024 VVCAL Blankets. This was the last VVCAL I did, so the demo blankets are still incomplete.
The 2024 VVCAL includes written and charted instruction of 36 unique hexagon motifs to mix-and-match, as well as 3 joining methods and stunning wide-lace border which is written to be used with any blanket.
Pattern Info
Here are all of the hexies that I’ll include, arranged in a circle.

Yarn Info
- Stone Washed and River Washed Yarn Pack – WoolWarehouse
- Catona Yarn Pack – WoolWarehouse
Here, I started to push the motifs together into what will become the blanket layout. I’m using the “Galaxy Style Layout” that I discussed about halfway down my blog post, entitled: “All Those Ends!”, “Layouts are Hard!”, and More… A Definitive Guide to Multicolor Motif Blankets, Plus Bonus Free Demo Blanket
For these, layouts, I place sections of color around the blanket and I blend the edges of the colors so that they reach across to one another. (Featuring orange helper, Momo.)

–
Take a look at the big blanket I made with these two color packs from the 2022 VVCAL hexagons. I used 2 Stone Washed and River Washed packs and 1 Catona pack for that one.
Instead of the Galaxy Style Layout, I used a striped color fade going from yellow at the top and moving through the rainbow to yellow-green at the bottom. These are truly some of the most fun blankets for me to make, because I love playing with all of the different motifs, and each little 10g ball makes 1 motif. It’s just perfect!

–
2024 VVCAL Blanket
For the next 2024 VVCAL Blanket, I used the Terrazzo yarn pack – the colors are absolutely stunning together, and I threw in some Scrumptious yarn motifs from a different demo blanket, just to complete the amount of motifs I needed.
Pattern Info

–
I’m using a full Terrazzo color pack as well as a bunch of leftover 10g balls from other packs I’ve partially used. The background color is this gorgeous green – it’s going to look great with the full palette!

2024 VVCAL Blanket
Yet another 2024 VVCAL Blanket! I told you there are several here.. This is the Scrumptious Spring palette that I used in the CAL.
Pattern Info
Aren’t these colors great together? I want to make squares with them using this exact color order. So pretty.

Variegated Hexies Blanket
This is a pet project that I work on in between writing patterns for CypressTextiles. It’s based on my Geometric Lace Blanket Pattern, and it uses various hand-dyed yarns purchased all around the globe, as well as some others thrown in.

–
Yarn Info
This is just a mix of totally random yarns! All of the yarns are variegated, giving the blanket lots of depth, and it’s been a great way to use all of these yarns together. I can look at the blanket and think of the memories I made on the trips when I bought each one.

–
2024 VVCAL Blanket
Ah, another VVCAL blanket – I think this is the last one on the list! This is made from leftovers from a Metropolis yarn pack. I got 2 motifs from each 10g ball!

For this blanket, I’m not sure if I’m going to create a color fade like in the layout below…

–
…or in a randomized layout like this. I’m such a sucker for a rainbow gradient that I think you already know which layout I’ll be choosing.

–
Jubilee Blanket
Jubilee features a centerpiece of bold little motifs randomly placed, with a border of fun contrasting pattern blocks. If you’re looking for a joyous make, this is the one! Playtime awaits!

I just love this blanket. If you can’t really see the vision yet, I think when it’s all done, it’ll be more clear. I drew inspiration from a fashion blogger who mixes bold patterns and colors in flowy textiles. More info to come in the future blog post!

2024 VVCAL Blanket
Yet another VVCAL… I’m starting to feel like there are too many, but I have all of the motifs, so I may as well make a blanket with them.
Pattern Info

–
These springy colors are so cute together. With a crisp white background, they will pop!
Yarn Info
- Catona 50g balls – Jimmy Beans Wool or WoolWarehouse
The lighting is way different here, but in real life the colors are warmer. I honestly don’t know if I should work these WIPs in order of most complete to least complete or by color palette according to the season, or what.. This year is definitely the year of the FO though!

–
Soulful Sierra Blanket
Here is another gorgeous make that’s great for the Unity Yarn line. Originally, this pattern is made using stripes, but this long color change yarn makes lovely stripes on its own, no need to change colors and weave extra ends.

I love this piece, because you can make a zig-zag blanket without chaining a looooong foundation chain. I start with big base triangles and then work across them to create the deep ripple.

–
Spring Mix Blanket
This one is a pattern that isn’t even released yet! I may work on releasing it soon, since it’s called “Spring Mix” and we are still in Spring (Northern Hemisphere).

–
Yarn Info
- Catona 50g balls – Jimmy Beans Wool or WoolWarehouse
These are just leftovers from random projects, including from some 10g balls out of a color pack. I’ll be setting this pattern up as a stash buster, meant to use up remnants. Aren’t these motifs darling?

–
Joy Garden Blanket
Joy Garden is a fresh, inspired design that will keep you engaged with each motif. The join-as-you-go construction means no sewing and a faster finish! I worked hard to make sure this pattern would require zero sewing, because sometimes you just want to join as you go.

- Metropolis Yarn Pack – WoolWarehouse

Yes, you can make each of these motifs with just 1 x 10g ball of Metropolis!

–
Tumbling Hexagons Blanket
This blanket is almost finished! It’s a simple yet effective geometric design that will show off any color palette beautifully, all made in easy linen stitch.

- Organicon – WoolWarehouse
Seeing the progress pic below makes me want to finish this piece so badly! In reality, the blanket is much more complete, and I have just a few more motifs to make. Designing this one was so fun, and I may do more like this!

–
2020 VVCAL Blanket
This VVCAL is from 2020, when the CALs were still square motifs. I thoroughly enjoyed making the squares for this color palette, and the blanket is almost all the way joined up. I just have to add the border!
Pattern Info

–
Here you can see how I joined the motifs up at first, but I did end up frogging it back and using a different joining method. When I do the blog post, I’ll share the details!

French Braid Blanket
Yes, I have made one of these before! But I made so many motifs that I decided to create 2 blankets out of them, and they still came out pretty large, I must say! I think this blanket that I am currently finishing is just 5 x 5 motifs, but I have to double check. These photos are from the first blanket I made.

The pattern includes all 3 different version of the design.

- Stone Washed XL – WoolWarehouse
Eeeeeep these motifs and color palette give me life! There are 3 variations in this pattern, the one you see here, a larger motif, and a full on baby blanket that just consists of 1 huge scale “motif.” I’m proud of this one, and you’ll love using your remnants or coming up with a color palette.

–
Colour Lab Blanket
Y’all may remember the 2023 Colour Lab Blanket CAL from Scheepjes that I designed! Well, I started a Whirl version that I never did finish, and I definitely want to wrap this one up and get it to someone who loves it!
Pattern Info

–
At first, I wanted to use these three whirls and then some white Whirlette for the background, but I just ended up using 3 of the Whirl pictured at the bottom right, and I alternated which end of the cake I started with.

Colour Lab Blanket
Another Colour Lab Blanket I started and never finished was the mini version I sketched out using Scrumptious yarn.

Here is where I am! I want to finish this one and see how it looks as a smaller blanket.

–
Lacy Hexagon Blanket
This one was one of my favorite patterns I designed that year! It features a classic lacy hexagon motif and the half-motifs to fill in the gaps at the edges. It works up beautifully in Unity yarn, or any yarn with long color changes. With just a few colors, each motif looks different and unique.

Yarn Info

Aren’t these colors amazing? This yarn has an updated name and lots of new color ways, so definitely check it out!

–
I think I am past this point in real life, but this is the last photo taken of the WIP. Cannot wait to start working on it – these motifs are the best!

–
Random Leftover Squares Blanket
These squares are just random leftovers that I have accumulated along the way. I want to make them all the same size as the largest motifs and put together a cozy, scrappy style blanket. One of my favorite things to add to these cozy blankets are some stripey granny squares, so I just may do that. These are all from the 2016 VVCAL – the first one I ever hosted! The yarn is just a mix of leftovers, but it’s all Scheepjes.
Pattern Info

–
Mini Hexagon Blanket
And we made it to the final project!
Another leftovers blanket and the demo design from my blog post, Mini Hexies Blanket: A Free Demo for My 7-Step Guide to Multicolor Motif Blankets . That blog post is like a demonstration walk-through of the post before it, which was “All Those Ends!”, “Layouts are Hard!”, and More… A Definitive Guide to Multicolor Motif Blankets, Plus Bonus Free Demo Blanket .

–
The yarn is remnants for this one as well, as I tried to “beef up” any color groups that needed a few more hexagons.

–
Eye candy! Looking forward to finishing up the join on this one!

–
Thank you SO MUCH for sticking around and reading to the end. These 19 projects will be featured on my website in the coming months as individual blog posts with loads of details and photos. Stay tuned!
Happy crafting,
Rachele C.
