Free Crochet Pattern: Heirloom Collection Blanket (UK Terms)

Hello, crafter! The Heirloom Collection Blanket pattern is finally here! Written instructions are below and step by step photos as well as videos will be made available starting Monday. I am so happy to have been able to provide this pattern just ten days after I started working on the blanket design. I have worked hard to finish the pattern, and can’t wait to get the step by step photos and videos up as I know many crafter rely on them. I tried to make the written instruction as detailed as possible, including the addition of stitch markers to make the instructions more clear.

For now, you can get a start with the available photos. Hope you enjoy this one!

Repeat and Bracket Guide

Square brackets [ ] are used for small repeats: 4dc, [2dc, 3tr, 2dc] 2 times

Asterisks *are used for repeats that include small repeats: *5dc, [1ch, 1dc] 3 times in next ch, rep from * 3 times

Round brackets ( ) are used when a string of stitches are worked into the same spot: (3tr, 3ch, 3tr) in next st

Stitch Counts are given at the end of rows where necessary, in the following format: [12 dc, 3 sp]

Tips and Notes

  • Weave your ends after each time you cut the yarn to avoid having to do them all at the end.
  • Please read the stitch guide for any abbreviations.
  • To get a neater result, I do not “chain up” for the first dc of the round/row. Jump straight into the first dc.

Instructions

The PDF version of this pattern is available on Etsy and Ravelry, and both US and UK Terms PDFs are included in the purchase.

Six beautiful blue and white hexagon motifs make up this stunning pottery collection inspired blanket. A delicate leafy border adds a natural touch to the design. This is truly one to cherish!

All 49 motifs are worked complete, with a long tail left for whip stitching later on. Leave over 3 times the length that you are joining as a rule of thumb. Since all final rounds are the same color, the Whip Stitch join mimics my PLT Join. If you are familiar with my PLT Join for hexagons as shown in patterns like Geometric Lace, you are welcome to use it here. I have used Whip Stitch Join in this pattern to reduce the length and complexity.

Note: Any time you would like to carry the yarn up, and you are able, feel free to do so instead of cutting the yarn if you would like to reduce the number of ends to weave in.

Joining Method: Whip Stitch

Lay out full hexagon motifs to match schematic as numbered. Join motifs together using the following instructions.

  1. Hold 2 motifs with wrong sides together, and use the long tail of one of the motifs.
  2. Pull the long tail through the center dc of both motifs, back to front.
  3. Insert the hook front to back through both loops of the next st to the left, on both motifs.
  4. Grab the long tail and pull it all the way through to the front of the piece, allowing the whip st to rest flush against the top edge of the motifs.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 across, inserting the hook through both motifs from front to back in the next st to the left, and pulling the yarn through to the front.
  6. When the next corner is reached, if there are no more subsequent sides to join, you can weave the excess tail, cutting it down if necessary.
  7. If there are more sides to join, do so, then cut yarn shorter if needed and weave in.
  8. Important: Do not pull yarn tail to tighten whip sts. Let the whip sts rest flush and snug against the joined edge. When you open the motifs flat, you should be able to see the little stitches.

Half Motif (Make 10)

Note: This is the motif that will be joined in down the long sides of the blanket.
