Playing With Yarn

Scheepjes Chunky Monkey for a new Linen Stitch Blanket

Hello, lovely! I recently got some yarn in the mail – always a joy! – and I just have to tell you about it. You might have seen my Linen Stitch Blanket series that launched in May of this year. It’s a collection of five free crochet blanket patterns using only Linen Stitch (also called Woven Stitch or Moss Stitch), and I have just one more pattern to release in the series! (Okay, I have one awesome bonus freebie that I will reveal after the series wraps – yay!)

For now, I wanted to show you the color palette for the final Linen Stitch Blanket, Chevronnie, a sweet and fun chevron blanket in Scheepjes Chunky Monkey. Read to the end for a sneak peek at the WIP!

Lush Fall Palette

Choosing colors is sometimes a daunting process, but for this project I pulled a color combination out of my mental archives that I have been wanting to use for a long time. Purple, Red, and Orange are besties, and it shows!

Take a look at this simple color wheel. I’m pretty much aiming for everything from Orange down to Purple. Perfect for Fall and oh so dreamy.

I made a special little color palette pin; there was no resisting it. To create the color palette, I selected the main three colors, red, orange, and purple, and then I added in some lighter and darker hues. The blue-ish purples are added in there for contrast, and there you have it!

Scheepjes Chunky Monkey

Here is a closer look at the yarn I am using for Chevronnie. Chunky Monkey is plush and squooshy, as well as being durable, soft, and anti pilling. It is perfect for any project as it’s durable and easy-care.

The color range is outstanding! I made a couple of free patterns – my Namaste Mandala and a sample for my Merryweather Square – with Chunky Monkey. They turned out great and I can’t wait to work up a blanket with it.

As I was working up the swatches for Chevronnie, I kept thinking, haven’t I used this palette before actually? Well, yes and no. I made my Cozy Flowers Blanket (another freebie!) in a similar combo, but a bit lighter, and with yellow added in. I used Catona and Maxi held together for that one. Chunky Monkey would actually work quite well for this one now that I think of it!

Chevronnie Blanket WIP

Another peek at this juicy color palette. Purple and Orange is honestly my favorite Fall combo, and with the red in there to tie it all together, it’s just so lovely.

I almost forgot! This is the border color. A nice grounded shade of purple to finish the edges and settle the brights.

And the moment you’ve been waiting for – the WIP sneak peek! Isn’t it deliciously juicy? The chevron strips are join as-you-go, so I decided to get a head start on a few of them to play with the color stripes. And I pulled four balls of Chunky Monkey for the photo, but omg I’m actually in love with those four colors together. Hmmmm – don’t be surprised if it shows up on a new blanket design in the new year!

Eeeeeep is it not gorgeous??

A close-up of the Chevronnie Blanket – all the heart eyes for this final free pattern in my Linen Stitch Blanket series. Here are the other four patterns:

These firey colors in the sunlight are giving me life! Thank you for stopping in to see my Chevronnie color palette. Hope you enjoyed the inspiration.

In my next Chevronnie post, I’ll show you more of the WIP and tell you a little more about her design process.

Happy Halloween, and stay safe! We will not be trick-or-treating this year, of course. I told the kids to just pretend it’s raining out. Worked like a charm because we had a Halloween downpour two years in a row in the past! So we will just be staying in as a family, playing games, watching movies, telling ghost stories, and of course, eating s’mores and candy.

Thanks again for stopping by! Happy crafting to you,

Rachele C.
