Hello, gorgeous crafter! Today, I want to share something that has been knocking around my head ever since I designed the Heirloom Collection Blanket. Of course, the original is made with a palette of blues and white to mimic blue and white pottery, and then the border is in leafy greens as a nod to our plant rooms. But what if it were a holiday blanket instead? OR what if you just love reds and you have red decor – then this version will definitely speak to you!
For this sample, I used Colour Crafter yarn instead of the Scrumptious yarn that the pattern calls for, simply because the Colour Crafter has more reds to choose from. I think you will love this one! Scroll ahead to see my work in progress.
Original Heirloom Collection Blanket
Before I kick off with the WIP details, I wanted to share the original pattern and a photo, so you can get a refresher of what the pattern looks like, and so you can find where to get the pattern.
Here is what the original blanket looks like, with two shades of blue plus white for the motifs, and that lovely crinkly leafy border.
This has been my most popular blanket pattern over the whole year! The CypressTextiles fans really seemed to like this one, and I’m excited to be making it again! Find the pattern below if you want to make one too.

And to think, this blanket design came from a photo that I had saved for years… Isn’t that wild?? I collect this blue and white pottery as you can see above, so I was very inspired by this photo.
I cannot wait to work up this design! Let’s take a look at the yarn I used so that you can scoop some up for this red-lovers project. The sneak peek preview photos have been getting a lot of attention on social media, so I have a feeling this one will be a hit. Definitely consider grabbing the yarn before the holiday rush!
Scheepjes Colour Crafter Yarn
For this blanket, I chose the cozy Colour Crafter yarn in two shades of red, and white. Here is how it looks up close.
Below, you can see some of my Colour Crafter stash – I would say that you can pick any shades for this blanket and it will come out amazing! Even if you mix it up and go really wild with the colors, you will find yourself with a gorgeous make.
The color range is outstanding! It’s truly a unique spread of color. I love the variety of tones and how well the colors could be mixed together across the whole range.

My WIP Color Palette
The colors I have chosen for this project are:
- No. 1246 – Maastricht x 4 balls
- No. 1123 – Roermond x 4 balls
- No. 1002 – Weert x 4 balls
I’m still debating whether I will use greens in the border since I am going for a holiday palette, but I am leaning toward just using the reds for the whole project.
A Quick Look at a Community Make
Before I dive in, I want to show you a CypressTextiles community make from Laura Pasch in my Facebook Group who make the Botanica Blanket in reds. Honestly this was such a fabulous coincidence and I absolutely loved seeing someone else converting a palette to reds at the same time that I was experimenting for the Heirloom Collection Blanket.
Look at the original Botanica Blanket. It is made in greens and white, as it is inspired by a beautiful white spiral staircase in a room full of lush plants.
Here is the inspiration photo, from the botanical gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark. Is it not just breathtaking?

And back to look at Laura’s stunning interpretation, prepare to be wowed!
A closeup of the border.
It is a complete stunner, and I am so delighted to see it! The colors that Laura chose are genius. I just love the range of reds, and that slightly peachy color, plus the darker maroon color – they really make the reds pop. A true work of art! And the perfect inspiration to convert any project to a red color palette.
Okay, now the moment you’ve been waiting for! My latest WIP and my holiday make!
Heirloom Collection Motifs in Red
These motifs looks amazing in red! Like I mentioned before, you can take any 2 monochrome shades and white/cream, or you can use this as a remnant and stash buster, and it will look awesome.
“Precious” Motif
This is my favorite motif of all of them! I want to make a blanket with just this motif one day. Here is how it looks in blue:
And here is the red version! I love the way it looks – just the right amount of contrast in the reds..
–
“Earthen” Motif
Earthen is one f the more simple motifs. I added in this motif because I wanted you to have a small break from all of the intricate designs, both visually and physically.
–
–
“Dynasty” Motif
My favorite part about this motif is the star at the middle. The way this motif looks like a snowflake is also perfect for the holiday season!
–
–
“Legacy” Motif
Another fun one with pretty bobbles highlighted in the design. Something about those bobbles at the outer edge that are flanked by little leaves reminds me of holly berries.
–
–
“Antique” Motif
Antique is such a gorgeous flowery, snowflakey motif. I just love this one! Another that would look great as a full blanket.
–
–
“Royal” Motif
This is one of the quickest of the motifs, and it was also the most popular motif among my followers when the pattern was first released.
Full Progress Photos
These photos have more going on in the background, so the lighter red has less of a radioactive glow. In real life the lighter red is much more of a berry color, and the darker red is a deeper shade. Red is so hard to capture on camera!
Here’s an overhead view of the blanket so far!. Beautiful!
And that’s all for now! I haven’t been able to put this one down, so I’m sure to show up here soon with proud pics of the completed blanket.
Thanks again for stopping by! Happy crafting to you,
Rachele C.
