The 2016 VVCAL Blanket Border

Today I wanted to share the 2016 VVCAL blanket border! It has been the most popular of the VVCAL blanket borders and many folks have used it for their blankets even if they aren’t the VVCAL pieces.

You can make the border in a few colors, or in one solid color like shown below!

3dccl (yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull up lp, yo, draw yarn through 2 lps) 3 times, yo, draw yarn through 4 lps

Instructions

Rnd 1 Using a size smaller hook, ss in any corner, (sc a multiple of 4sc + 3 across to corner st, 3sc in corner st) 4 times, ss in first sc.

Rnd 2 * (sc, ch2, sc) in corner st, (ch2, sk1, sc) across to the next corner, ch2, sk1, rep from * 3 times, ss in first sc.

Rnd 3 Beg dc in sp, * ch3, 3dc in same sp, sk 1 sp, (dc, ch4, dc) in next sp, (sk 1 sp, 2dc, ch1, 2dc) across to final 3 sps before corner sp, sk 1 sp, (dc, ch4, dc) in next sp, 3dc in corner sp, rep from * 3 times omt final st, ss in beg dc.

Rnd 4 Beg dc in sp, * ch3, 3dc in same sp, 9dc in ch-4 sp, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in all ch-1 sps across, 9dc in ch-4 sp, 3dc in corner sp, rep from * 3 times omt final st, ss in beg dc.

Rnd 5 Beg dc in sp, * ch3, 3dc in same sp, (dc in dc, ch1) 8 times, dc in dc, (dc, ch1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in all ch-1 sp across to final ch-1 sp, (dc, ch1, dc) in ch-1 sp, (dc in dc, ch1) 8 times, dc in dc, 3dc in corner sp, rep from * 3 times omt final st, ss in beg dc.

Rnd 13 Beg dc in sp, * picot, 3dc in same sp, ch2, (sc in next sp, ch5, sc in second ch of ch-5, ch2) 9 times, [(sc in next ch-2 sp, picot) 2 times, work 2 more Picot so you have 3 Picot in a row. Note: Each sc used to close these 2 additional picots will be placed in the sc from the prev picot. Sc in next ch-2 sp, picot, sc in next ch-2 sp] across to final sc, ch5, sc in second ch of ch-5, ch2, sc in next sp) 9 times, ch2, 3dc in corner sp, rep from * 3 times omt final st, ss in beg dc, cut yarn and weave ends..
