My Blanket Stack

Joy Garden Blanket Reveal

Hello, lovely! Today I wanted to share a finish with you! The Joy Garden Crochet Blanket in Scheepjes Metropolis is an idea that I had years ago. My goal was to create a blanket using half hexagons in a braid pattern that would be worked up in join as you go panels. The final outcome is superb! Read on to see more!

Find the PDF crochet pattern for Joy Garden on Ravelry and Etsy and have early access to the pattern. BOTH US and UK Terms PDFs are included in the purchase.

I cannot say enough about how much I love this blanket! Designing it was a dream and I made a challenge for myself to use up an entire 10g ball of Metropolis from the Colour Pack for each motif.

After a few tests and prototypes, I chose a flat braid join type join as you go process because the slightly lacy join is very forgiving. If your motifs aren’t exactly straight, the lace between the motifs will smooth it all out. And the fact that it uses the Metropolis Colour Pack is a total win. This pack has the perfect shades.

The free pattern for this blanket will be released in a couple days on July 15th here on my blog as a freebie, and of course the convenient PDF is available on Ravelry and Etsy. Tutorial videos for the pattern will release next week on my YouTube Channel.

Designing Joy Garden

The idea for the Joy Garden Blanket came from my deep love for getting crochet inspiration from fabric quilts. There are quite a few patterns out there for braid quilt blankets using half hexagons. Here are a couple of them!

The Half Hexagon Braid Quilt by QuilterByDesign on Etsy.

The Sashed Half Hexi Quilt by Missouri Star Quilt Co. How cool is this square. Trust me, I almost made square motifs instead of panels, but I decided to save that concept for another design.

The first scraps of designy bits! This is when I was just beginning to see how I would create the half hexie shape, and you can read more about the WIP at this blog post.

I know it the repetitive shapes are so simple, but sometimes a simple and zen project is just what the doctor ordered.

This yarn is so lush and buttery soft, it’s a total dream. And just enough squish to be cozy, but not too much to be annoyingly floofy. It’s just perfect.
