The Art of Crochet Blankets

Rolling Plains Crochet Blanket Pattern, From My Book, The Art of Crochet Blankets

Hello, friend! Today I want to share another crochet pattern from my blanket design book, The Art of Crochet Blankets. Lately I have been getting some questions about the book, because the blankets are inspired by non-crochet artists.

Yes, six artists are featured in the book, and their crafts range from digital art to cement tile, and more. I set the book up that way to show how the fusion of inspiration from non-crochet arts with our crochet craft can propel crochet forward and allow it to evolve.

Rolling Plains Crochet Blanket

The construction process of Rolling Plains is quite fun in that instead of crocheting a ton of individual pieces and then sewing them together to make the mini landscapes, each color block is worked off of the previous one. Three small panels are created using this process, and the whole blanket comes together very quickly.

This one is perfect for a baby blanket! I can see it in a dozen different color combinations.

The Inspiration Behind Rolling Plains

Rolling Plains is inspired by weaving artist, Maryanne Moodie, who has some truly incredible pieces. You can see her work on Instagram, or visit her website for more information about her works.

Here is lovely Maryanne Moodie, and her gorgeous studio space.

And here is the piece that stole my heart and inspired my Rolling Plains Crochet Blanket. There were so many intriguing geometric wall hangings in Maryanne’s body of work that it was tough to choose just three for her feature in the book. I felt like I could draw inspiration from them all!
