My Blanket Stack

NEW FO: The Dimensions Blanket, Featuring Andrea Grimaldi

Hello, lovely! Today I wanted to introduce you to something I have had in the vault for some time. Ever since I had a weird idea to make a few blankets from tessellations. Two years ago, in January 2018, I started sketching out ideas for a few tessellation blankets. One of them became the Dimensions Blanket! Made using beautiful and popular Scheepjes Stone Washed.*

Dimensions Blanket Pattern

The Dimensions Blanket pattern is already available on Etsy and Ravelry, if you’d like to check it out! Or it also will be available to everyone next week!

The lovely sample blanket and all blanket photography is by the talented Andrea Grimaldi.

Designing Dimensions

Here is the actual inspiration tessellation image I used to create this design. I love the illusion that appears because of the four different shades, but it would still look cute in any colors.

The first scraps of designy bits! This is when I was just beginning to see how I would create the shapes, and I just used any colors of Stone Washed that I had on hand.

Choosing a Color Combo

The colors I used for this blanket are in the photo below – and what a gorgeous pile, I must say! You’ll choose 4 colors for the main blanket body design, and then 1 as a “background color”, which is the pale grey in the photo below.

These colors are:

  • Yarn A: 814 x 4 balls (Background)
  • Yarn B: 815 x 4 balls
  • Yarn C: 819 x 4 balls
  • Yarn D: 805 x 4 balls
  • Yarn E: 813 x 4 balls

I’ve picked out a few more color combos that you may like for this blanket! Just choose a background color to go with them and you’re all set.

From left to right, top to bottom, here are the color numbers for these four suggested combos. You will need 4 balls of each, plus 4 balls of background color (total 20 balls of Stone Washed).

  • 820, 836, 835, 807
  • 801, 831, 833, 832
  • 819, 817, 812, 806
  • 808, 810, 830, 803

This blanket was a pleasure to design, and it was so fun working with Andrea who tested everything for me, sight unseen. I love the edging of this one, because it looks like it would fit so well in a nursery. The blanket is perfect for a baby to crawl on with its opulent shapes.

Plus, Andrea caught this great shot of Dimensions with her gorgeous dog, Nesta in the foreground. This may be the highlight of my crochet career, I tell you! What a regal fur-baby.

Thank you as always for stopping in and checking out my latest offering. I appreciate you!
