Scheepjes YARN 04 – Dutch Masters

Looking for something new to crochet? Scheepjes Yarns has released their latest issue of YARN bookazine, and it is so lush. Find this issue here at > WoolWarehouse < for speedy delivery. Dutch Masters is this issue’s theme, so the strong, deep colors - beautiful reds, purple, blue - are cozy, warm, and inviting. In fact, my coze factor has just dramatically increased.. I think I need a cup of coffee and a blanket; give me a sec.. Okay I’m back. So my contribution to YARN 04 is on the cover in the upper right corner. It’s a blanket named “New Horizons.” I did loads of research on the works of Piet Mondrian for my piece, and did you know he did so much more than the mod red blue and yellow squares that he’s known for? Yep, when I think of Piet Mondrian, I picture the primary color squares and rectangles shown in the image above, and I’ll bet you do too. But did you know Mondrian’s earlier works include broody landscapes with muddy, emotional color? …

Working on a NEW Desert Bloom!

Hi, y’all! Since late 2012 when I began designing crochet blanket patterns, I have gotten oodles of feedback, but had little time to implement updates. So this year is all about designing new patterns and taking time to update old ones. I’m even having them tested to make them more “user-friendly” for you lovely crafters.  The first pattern is Desert Bloom – one of my favorites!  Here is the original Desert Bloom Blanket. The border still gives me heart eyes. Did you know that Desert Bloom was based on a dress belonging to my middle daughter? Take a look at the quick preliminary sketch and the inspiration dress: And check out some Desert Blooms that pop up in the #DesertBloomBlanket Instagram hashtag… Now these are some real beauties! The color alterations and craftsmanship – it is an honor to have such beautiful pieces made from my patterns. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• There’s just something about those flowers, and mixing motifs in the design takes it to another level. I mentioned I’m having this pattern tested, and …

Mixing Yarns for a New Project!

Hi, y’all! I’m planning a new project and I pulled a few different Scheepjes* yarns to  mix it up. These may have slightly different weights, but if you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know that I’m definitely not afraid to cross yarn types, even if they’re just “close enough.” I’ll mix in a heartbeat!  Yarns: Colour Crafter* – 4 balls – My yarn review Stone Washed* – 10 balls (2 duplicate colors not pictured) Softfun Aquarel* – 6 balls Ran these gorgeous yarns through the Prisma app for some fun!  And here’s my plan for this project. My upcoming free pattern: Moon Landing Blanket! Stay tuned! It doesn’t cost you anything extra, and it helps keep CypressTextiles going!

Scheepjes Colour Crafter: A yarn stash staple.

I wanted to introduce y’all to a durable DK yarn that I just started using. Chances are if Scheepjes Colour Crafter isn’t already your go-to DK powerhouse, you have one that popped in your mind. I used to use a different one too, (probably the one you thought of!!) but the moment I laid hand on Colour Crafter, I never looked back. Check out this rich palette – can you tell I’m amped for Fall? I’ll be using these colors for an awesome pattern coming soon! Y’all will love it! This is only part of the selection that I have right now, and I suspect I’ll have all 93 (!) colors soon.. Here’s another palette that I’m using to update my Desert Bloom Blanket pattern. I love this yarn so much that I’m starting fresh with a whole new – larger – Desert Bloom in Colour Crafter. So what’s the yarn like? Scheepjes CC is ultra squishy and plush. Acrylic and easy care. One of the reasons I like it is that there isn’t much of …
