Hello, lovely crafter! Today I wanted to feature a wonderful book that I contributed to called 100 Crochet Tiles: Charts and Patterns for Crochet Motifs Inspired by Decorative Tiles. This is a beautiful volume of crochet blocks that you can turn to again and again for squares to make a tiled blanket. I contributed 10 tile designs to the book, and I wanted to share those with you today!

Update! Knitted Color Story Motif
Before I jump into showing you the motifs that I contributed to 100 Crochet Tiles, I just wanted to show you that a talented crafter has created a knitted version of my Color Story Motif! If you recall, I created the Color Story Motif as the free crochet block addition to my book report on The Secret Lives of Color, by Kassia St. Clair.
I thought it would be nice to share this update here on the 100 Crochet Tiles contribution post because this motif is meant to be tiled, to bring out the opulence.
Here is my Color Story Crochet Motif for reference – Ravelry Link

Here is how the motif looks tiled with the striped section featured:

And how it looks with the diamond section featured:

And here is the gorgeous knitted version, by Sonia – Ravelry Link

From Sonia’s Ravelry page: “A brilliant collection of colors come together to form a mosaic of shapes. A simple blanket to knit – all garter stitch – which results in a complex geometric design.
A great project to use with scrap yarns.
The pattern is written using aran weight yarns, both Paintbox Simply Aran and Stylecraft Special Aran. Any yarn can be used for this project; just adjust for the desired size and gauge.”
Check out the full blanket – eeeeep so pretty! You can see what I mean that it is meant to be tiled – it gives an entirely different look, as the diamonds and the striped portions really stand out.

Love this! What talent, and the full knitted blanket looks amazing. Way to go, Sonia! Go check out her Ravelry page for the blanket, it’s truly beautiful.
100 Crochet Tiles
As I mentioned before, I designed 10 motifs for this book, and I enjoyed creating them very much. My favorite part was making sure that all of the motifs were very different from one another, and that I had some unique pieces to contribute. The book is a great collection, if you wanted to try and get your hands on one. Each motif has written and charted instructions.
Peep two of my motifs at the top left and right corners of the cover 🙂

From the Amazon page:
“100 Crochet Tiles features a wide range of crochet patterns and charts from a number of different, talented crochet designers. Choose from your favourite whether it’s a multicoloured, middle eastern pattern or a geometric design in an understated colour way.
Create stunning, colourful designs using crochet techniques including intarsia crochet, overlay crochet, mosaic crochet and tapestry crochet. All of the crochet stitches and techniques you will need to make the crochet patterns are included in the techniques section along with helpful step-by-step artworks and instructions. There are crochet charts for each of the tiles alongside the written crochet patterns.
These crochet tile patterns are the perfect stash buster and a great way to use up small amounts of leftover yarn. As well as the tile patterns there are eight project ideas for ways to use the crochet tiles. These include cushion and pillow covers, afghans and throws as well as rugs, wall hangings and table mats. You can choose your favourite designs and make beautiful crochet gifts for friends and family.”
Now let’s see my squares!
10 Motif Design Contributions
These motifs all use Scheepjes Yarns and were designed around 2022 when the book was released.
Blue Bobbles
Out of all of the motifs I designed for this book, this is one of my favorites! It was challenging making my idea of the light blue textured petals coming off of the dark blue bobbles come to life, but in the end I really like how it came out.

Here is the back of the motif, just so you can see that it isn’t a mess, even with the colorwork.

Laceflower
I think one day I just might make a neutral color blanket with just this square. One thing I like to try to do when I design motifs with tiles in mind is to make sure where four squares come together, you will have a visually interesting design moment. Here, I tried to envision a plus sign or cross with a lacy center, if you can try to imagine it.
The linen color is really perfect for it, although if you prefer a brighter palette, I could see making it in a few colors to make the flower stand out. Clusters as petals is one of my most utilized design elements, and this motif displays that very well.

Crystal Ripple
Another total fave, this motif has a lot of personality. Between the tiny treble bobbles at center, and the cutesy cupcake looking petals around the edges, this is just the most fun motif. Imagine a sea of these in a blanket, of all different colors. How gorgeous would that be?

All of a Cluster
I enjoyed creating this design because my goal was to infuse it with as much energy as possible. As I was crocheting demo after demo, I was just thinking of how to make the motif feel like it was bursting with light and energy, almost like a firework. I think mission accomplished! The four corners do seem to radiate brightly off of the center flower.

Flower Power
Okay, Flower Power is an experiment in tile motifs. I wanted to go crazy with this one, and yes, I tested the motifs to make sure they would fit together, and they do! This flower all on its own is a stunner, and with the fun trellis structure, it’s giving elegance and fancy. The little green leaves just kill me!

Another view. There aren’t enough hours in the day – I want to make all of these into a blanket!

–
Point to Point
It’s not a secret that I am in love with linen stitch. After all, I have a whole ebook of patterns made with linen stitch alone, because it’s just that versatile. This motif features a narrow corner to corner strip with a different color squaring off to opposing corners. The construction is super fun and quicker to work up than you may think.

Point to Point is also another one that tiles up very nicely. I made up a quickie little edit to show that, and here I have the blue at center, but you can see that the green would also be tiled in this same way, and these color “tiles” would alternate with the linen color as the “sashing.”

–
PS: Look at the Linen Stitch Blanket Series cover – I’m telling you this stitch pattern is so completely versatile. The blankets look nothing alike, except for the ones that have multiple versions.

–
Classical Ogee
I had a lot of fun with this one, as it’s another uniquely shaped tile. I think this one would work best with the same colors in the tiles, repeated throughout the blanket, but it would also be nice to choose a handful of colors and use them randomly.

Crescent Quarter
You could have so much fun with this motif! I have made a few of these quarter-mandala motifs in my crochet career, and they really never disappoint. The huge front post bobbles really add a chunky satisfying texture, and

Again here is the back of the motif just to show that it does look neat.

Criss-Cross
Another example of how linen stitch can look so different. This motif has a clever construction and also looks so funky when tiled. The way the triangle is made and then the striped triangle fills in to make the square gives it a whimsical look.

Floral Hexagon
Lastly, but not leastly, the Floral Hexagon is like one of those classic flower-to-granny looks. I wanted to make a really elegant floral center, and then surround it with a chunky border, for a great contrast. I think that tiled, this hexie would look so good. Really cozy and chic.
