Hello, lovely crafter! Today I want to share my latest free crochet blanket pattern progress, The Prismalux Blanket. The pattern will consist of quilt-block inspired squares which are then joined together in a super unique way, combining two of my favorite themes in crochet: quilt blocks and rainbows.
I have used full balls of Scheepjes River Washed, and a Scheepjes Stone Washed and River Washed pack (yarny info below) but you can really use any gorgeous yarns you have. This would make a brilliant stash buster as well. I can’t wait to show you more in this WIP post. Hoping to slide into home with a Pride Month pattern publish!
PDF Version
This pattern is now available! The PDF version of this pattern is available on Etsy, Ravelry, and in my online shop, and both US and UK Terms PDFs are included in the purchase.
These blocks are log cabin, arrow, mitered square, floral, and granny, all combined in such a way as to give a very opulent result. I still have one more floral block to design, so that’s why the blanket has these large blank spaces. You’ll see as I reveal more!

Quilt-Block Inspired Motifs
My rainbow palette River Washed is looking quite lovely in these blocks. Saturated without being too bright. Mixed with the white, it’s just a really eye-catching look.

–
There are only like five individual motif patterns here, but it’s the color arrangement that sets this blanket apart. The log cabin squares are the feature, as there is a log cabin square in every other position in the layout, like a checkerboard. When I chose the colors, I did so very strategically so as to create almost an optical illusion within the layout.
The blocks like the one you see below with the little flower make a diamond, which you can see later on the schematic reveal.

–
Here are some more of the small flowers that I made to go in the center of more log cabin squares like that one. This blanket has two types of floral squares – a small flower and a large flower, which are spread out in the blanket. For all of the flowers, I am using a Stone Washed and River Washed Colour Pack!

–
As you look at these motifs, I can hear you saying “but, all those endsssssss!” Well never fear, because I have a huge blog post dedicated to blankets with a ton of ends to weave in.
This neat square makes an arrow, and is also inspired by quilt blocks. I just love the colors and the design!

–
I think this rainbow solid mitered square is probably my favorite motif! The bright juicy colors are really stunning, especially the red and the teal green.

Now let’s continue the progress pics!
Prismalux Blanket Progress Pics
Alrighty here’s the first look when I started joining motifs together. In this blanket, the log cabin squares, both floral center and granny square center, are all made completely and set aside. They make a checkerboard layout.
The in-between solid squares like the mitered square, the arrow block, and the coming soon large floral square are all worked up to the final round, and then the final round is what joins the surrounding log cabin blocks together.

–
For a closer look, you can see that the log cabin squares don’t have a border round, but the solid squares do.

–
And here’s a closer look. I wonder what the fan favorite square will be – maybe the rainbow mitered square like me, or maybe the granny square log cabin which I think is a crowd pleaser.

–
Okay, in the following pics, I have made more progress! Now you can really see how the log cabin color choice is coming together. This is just the top right quadrant of the blanket, and the actual center square of the blanket will be located at the bottom left corner of the photo below. It’ll be a large floral square, so it’s not showing yet!

Design Sneak Peek
Once everything starts falling into place, it will all be more clear, but just to show you how it looks when it’s done, check out the layout I made.
Yes, I am still in the world of MS Paint for my design “sketches”… It just works for me! Hopefully this layout shows you how these weird motifs work together, even though they don’t seem like they “go.”
I’m having a great time working on this one, and I hope y’all like it! Prismalux Free Crochet Blanket Pattern coming super soon 🙂

Thank you so much for checking out my new WIP, the Prismalux Blanket, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
