We will be joining our motifs during weeks 18 and 19. For this VVCAL, I really wanted to give the option for the SC join as you go with PLT, because I love the look, and so many of you do as well.
–
In order to achieve this join, the final round of the motifs cannot be worked completely, because during weeks 18 and 19 we will be joining them as we go on that final round. If you are working the SC with PLT Join as you go, where all of the motifs touch instead of having a joining yarn in between, only work the first 2 sides of the final round on all of your motifs, up to but not including the third corner, and do not cut the yarn. During Weeks 18 and 19, we will complete the remaining sides and join them together.
If you are working the SC with PLT Join as you go, here is an example of how your motifs will look when you are finished:
–
Note that the first 2 sides are worked, and the next step will be to make the 3sc corner, which is where we will pick up when we join. I like to roll up my motif so that the attached yarn balls don’t get all tangled. About halfway through the VVCAL, the full PDF with layouts will be released, and you can start joining then if you like! More on that later down the line.
–
For all other joining methods, work the final round completely, and cut yarn.
Now, find your version below and get started!
Catona 10g Colour Pack version
Note: I am working the SC join as you go with PLT Join for this version demo, so I have left a longer tail and I will be picking out the final round later on to join.
Note: This week, get gauge with Plain Hexie A by making sure it measures as the diagram below, unblocked. All other hexies should be compared back to this one throughout the CAL to get gauge. You will need to get 1 motif from 1 x 10g ball.
Catona Spring Palette version
–
Make 2 full and 2 half hexies total:
Note: I am introducing an alternative to Half Hexie A and B, called Half Hexie C. I will be working my demo with 2 of Half Hexie C each week instead of 1 each of A and B. You can choose either option depending on which you like more!
Note: This week, get gauge with Plain Hexie A by making sure it measures as the diagram below, unblocked. All other hexies should be compared back to this one throughout the CAL to get gauge. You will need to get 1 motif from 1 x 10g ball.

2 Packs SW/RW 10g Colour Pack version
I am not making this demo so I won’t have photos, but motif color numbers and layouts will be provided if you want to use 2 packs!
Note: This week, get gauge with Plain Hexie A by making sure it measures as the diagram below, unblocked. All other hexies should be compared back to this one throughout the CAL to get gauge. You will need to get 1 motif from 1 x 10g ball.
Terrazzo 10g Colour Pack version

Note: Since this version does not use 10g balls, it doesn’t matter as much that your hexagons meet the spec below. As long as they are all the same size as your Plain Hexie A, you will be golden.

Hello, gorgeous crafter! Whether or not you have been following along with us during the 2024 VVCAL over the past weeks, you will be delighted to know that I have released the full pattern PDF.
Why do I release the full pattern halfway during the VVCAL? The VVCAL is 20 weeks, which is quite a long and slow-paced CAL. I know some folks really love this pacing and enjoy seeing the new patterns release every weekend, and making the few hexies each week.
However, I also know some crafters just want to finish the blanket and not have to wait 20 weeks to have a completed project. So that’s why at around Week 10, I release the full pattern PDF.
CypressTextiles Tree Huggers Facebook Group – This is my main FB group (join!). Share your VVCAL progress pics in this group if you like, and I will share CAL highlights here, but the weekly action will be in the other group linked above.
You may be wondering how the 44-page PDF is structured. Let me walk you through that in case you have never purchased one of my VVCAL PDFs before.
1. Intro and Stitch Guide
There is a short intro and a 2-page stitch guide with abbreviations at the beginning. Along with the abbreviations for common stitches, there are descriptions of how to create stitches like puff, popcorn, cluster, and bobble, as well as decreases, and more.
The Stitch Guide leads into a 2-page FAQ section with lots of important tips and tricks for the CAL. The FAQ include color tips, tips for using stash yarn, helpful hints for following a CypressTextiles pattern, and much more.
–
2. Yarn Quantity, Layouts and Motif Trackers
The next 13 pages consist of layouts and motif trackers for each demo blanket. Every demo mentioned in this VVCAL is represented, so you can follow the layout and check off the motifs that you make as you go.
All color numbers of yarns are included in this as well so you will know the future colors of the motifs as we head into the second half of the VVCAL. Also included on the layout pages is the yarn and quantity info and affiliate links so that you can find the yarn.
–
3. Motif Patterns
For the 36 mix-and-match hexie motifs, I include a photo of the motif, as well as the chart and the written instruction. All of the motifs are included in the PDF over 19 pages – even the ones that are coming up in the CAL. There is also video support for the motifs, which you can find here in a playlist:
–
4. Joining Methods
I provide 3 Joining Methods, Single Crochet with my PLT Join, and Celtic Lace Mini and Celtic Lace Mini II for Hexagons. Mini and Mini II have just a slight difference, but the subtlety is definitely appreciated, depending on whether you want a more plain join, or a more flowery join.
–
5. Border
A wide lace border is included for this VVCAL and it turns out so cute and textured! Hope you enjoy it!
6. CypressTextiles Media Kit Page
The final page of all of my PDF patterns is a little collection of links to where to find my work online, as well as my social media and links to a few patterns that you may also enjoy.
–
The VVCAL PDF is always very popular each year. It does take some hefty work to put together, but it’s so worth it for you all to have a complete collection of the motifs, joins, and border, all in one place.
If you haven’t been following along, here is some info about the CAL sample versions, so you can see more about what’s in the PDF pattern.
2024 VVCAL Blanket Versions
There are 6 slightly differing versions of this blanket shown in the CAL each week. You can choose 1 or more and join along! Scroll below to find your version and see all of the related information, including what to do if you want to use stash yarn.
Catona 10g Colour Pack version

2 Packs SW/RW 10g Colour Pack version
I am not making this demo so I won’t have photos, but motif color numbers and layouts will be provided if you want to use 2 packs!

Terrazzo 10g Colour Pack version
Note I am working the SC join as you go with PLT Join for this version demo, so my final round is incomplete for now, if you are working any other joining method, you will work the final round complete, cut yarn, and weave ends.
Note: This week, get gauge with Plain Hexie A by making sure it measures as the diagram below, unblocked. All other hexies should be compared back to this one throughout the CAL to get gauge. You will need to get 1 motif from 1 x 10g ball.

Note: This week, get gauge with Plain Hexie A by making sure it measures as the diagram below, unblocked. All other hexies should be compared back to this one throughout the CAL to get gauge. Note: Since this version does not use 10g balls, it doesn’t matter as much that your hexagons meet the spec below. As long as they are all the same size as your Plain Hexie A, you will be golden.
Thank you so much for stopping in for this week of the 2024 VVCAL! Be sure to share you progress on FB and IG, and Pin as well to share!
