Working On a Pastel Beauty

Hello, you! It has been a busy week here at CypressTextiles. My Creative Art Blanket Course is now available for pre-order, I launched my Dutch Rose Blanket CAL Reboot, and debuted my Time Traveller’s Blanket in the latest issue of YARN Bookazine. I also started working on a big blanket using all 191 or so of the demo hexies from my 2022 VVCAL, and I will be sharing that blanket in a blog post soon!

A couple of weeks ago I told you about a blanket that did not yet have a name, that I was working up using Scheepjes Organicon Yarn. (affiliate link)

Originally I thought this would be my 100th published blanket pattern, but then my Time Traveller’s Blanket pattern was published in YARN Bookazine, and that stole the crown of my 100th.

Well the unnamed Organicon blanket now has a name – and a few progress pics too. I’m super excited to show you, so read on!

Aren’t these bright shapes the prettiest? I have been working feverishly on this WIP for days without stopping. It is that addictive! Read on for some cute progress photos.

Tumbling Hexagons Blanket

I mentioned it in the yarn arrival post, but it bears repeating that this design has been knocking around in my mind for a few years now, and it was so satisfying to go from sketch to motifs.

These geometric lovelies fit together in the most delightful way. Check out my sketch from an image that crossed my path years ago.

I think with the quantity of yarn that I have, I will only be creating a portion of this sketch, but it will still be adorable.

These little filler triangles are so cute and just fit perfectly to square off the top and bottom edge of the blanket. PS, aren’t these colors scrumptious?

My favorite motif to work up from this project are these diamonds. I love linen stitch because it is so versatile.

These diamonds remind me of my Gemma Blanket Pattern that I made with Stone Washed and Stone Washed XL, but I made those with straight single crochet.

So anyway, this project got put on hold because the just-right yarn wasn’t chosen yet, or the just-right stitches weren’t stitched yet. And I never rush designs – everything in its time, right?

The Scheepjes Organicon is just perfect, and you could even take these three triangle/diamond motifs and make a blanket with just those on their own! Wouldn’t this be adorable in a nursery?

Scheepjes Organicon

This yarn is so smooth and soft, it’s a total dream. And the yardage – swoon. It’s just perfect.

Here is the way I kind of organized the colors – I picked the stronger pastels, and you can read more about that on the Yarn Arrival post.

Epic pastel colors!

Progress Pics

Here’s how I progressed through this cutie-pie piece.

Step 1 with the neat and sweet joining method.

Step 2 adding in more hexies.

Step 3 I love how you can see the alternating direction of the linen stitch in the hexagons.

Step 4 Those diamonds are my favorite part!

Step 5 How neat are the partial hexagon chevron shapes? They are cleverly constructed too.

Step 6 marking out the length of the blanket.

Step 7 Reaching the top and bottom edges with some fill triangles.

I’m so in love with this blanket! It did get de-throned from the 100th full blanket pattern spot, but that’s okay, 101st will be a great feat. So totally looking forward to finishing this piece with its pastel tones. It’s going to be amazing; I can feel it! Be back soon to show more.

In the meantime, happy crafting!
