WIP: Heirloom Crochet Blanket in a Red-Lovers Holiday Palette!

Hello, gorgeous crafter! Today, I want to share something that has been knocking around my head ever since I designed the Heirloom Collection Blanket. Of course, the original is made with a palette of blues and white to mimic blue and white pottery, and then the border is in leafy greens as a nod to our plant rooms. But what if it were a holiday blanket instead? OR what if you just love reds and you have red decor – then this version will definitely speak to you! For this sample, I used Colour Crafter yarn instead of the Scrumptious yarn that the pattern calls for, simply because the Colour Crafter has more reds to choose from. I think you will love this one! My Gumball Blanket pattern has been a go-to for making multiple motifs in one sitting, and then joining them with a continuous granny stitch join as-you-go for the ultimate comfort make. Here is the pattern if you want to make this one too! Warning, the motifs are very addictive, but the good thing is that this blanket is very versatile. You can make any combination of the motifs given in the pattern, and you’ll have a different blanket every time. Hello, crafter! This month, I am focusing on Phase 1 of the Artist’s Journey, and the importance of imitation when just starting out in your craft. You can read all about that in Episode 2 of Creative Clarity. I shared a bit about my first phase of designing in that post, but in 2014 while I was still in the beginning stages of crochet design, I saw a heart mandala that I fell in love with and wanted to turn into a blanket motif. I reached out to the designer, Crochet Millan, and asked if I could add on additional rounds to her design, and create a quarter motif and a half motif to make a full blanket. She gave me permission, and I made the additions a freebie on my website. Hello, lovely! I recently got some yarn in the mail – always a joy! – and I just have to tell you about it. If you love Colour Crafter then you will love “Scrumptious”, this new yarn from Scheepjes! If you are working up the Colour Lab CAL, you might be trying out the Scrumptious Kit, and if so, you already know how plush and soft this yarn is. If you haven’t used it yet, I recommend giving it a shot! I already have a plan in mind for this yarn, so I ordered specific colors, but of course, I have my Colour Lab CAL Scrumptious demo kit yarn as well, and I just might cook up a smaller project for my leftovers! This month, I am focusing on getting back to my creative roots, since the debut post of my Creative Clarity series is about falling back in love with your art. I have felt a little out of touch with my art lately as I was working on a huge design, the Scheepjes Colour Lab CAL, and now that that project is off the ground, I turned to my planned project list, but nothing was calling my name. Feeling super uninspired, I followed my own advice and reached back to the beginning of my creative journey to my Gumball Blanket design. It was the first blanket I ever designed!
