Dutch Rose Blanket CAL

Dutch Rose Blanket CAL: Striped Corner Pattern (US and UK Terms)

Welcome to the Striped Corner pattern for the Dutch Rose Blanket CAL! You will find both US and UK Terms here on this page.

Materials

  • For full yarn list for both colorways, please see the Main CAL Info Page.
  • We will be using a size 3.75mm hook, or whatever hook size you need in order to get gauge.

Gauge (Important for this section)

The gauge is especially important for this portion. During the first run of this CAL, some folks had trouble with their striped corner being too tall and ending up cone shaped. Because of this, I have made a lot of gauge notes here to help set you up for success!

Start your Striped Corner, and work the first 7 rows. Rows 1-7 should measure 2in (5.1cm) in height, and 10 dc (UK tr) sts should measure 2in (5.1cm).

If your rows measure more or less than this in width and height, I recommend going down to the next smaller size hook for the Striped Corner.

If your width is spot on, but the height is taller or shorter, then you need to watch this YouTube video by Esther of “It’s All in a Nutshell” about the Golden Loop. I am a “rider”, so right in the middle. If you are a “lifter” especially, then you will likely struggle with your striped corner stitches being too tall, and not fitting the blanket properly.

Practice getting your Golden Loop right so that your gauge is as close as possible. This will ensure a successful Striped Corner.

Repeat and Bracket Guide

  • Square brackets [ ] are used for small repeats: 4dc, [2dc, 3tr, 2dc] 2 times
  • Asterisks *are used for repeats that include small repeats: *5dc, [ch1, 1dc] 3 times in next ch, rep from * 3 times
  • Round brackets ( ) are used when a string of stitches are worked into the same spot: (3tr, 3ch, 3tr) in next st

Tips and Notes

  • Weave your ends after each time you cut the yarn to avoid having to do them all at the end.
  • Please read the stitch guide for any abbreviations.
  • To get a neater result, I do not “chain up” for the first sc of the round/row. Jump straight into the first sc.
  • Read carefully through the entire pattern before beginning.
  • “Ss in 1 ch” or “Ss in 2 chs” means to slip stitch into that number of chains of the first chain space.

Stitch Counts

In the table below, I provide the stitch counts for all of the odd-numbered rows in the Striped Corner. Row 1 is an sc (UK dc) row, and all of the odd-numbered rows after that are dc (UK tr) rows.

You will find the Row Number, then the stitch counts for the Small, Medium, and Large Blanket versions. The green and white stripes indicate 10-row repeats. Blue lettering has no significance.

Tip: Print or save the image below to check off rows as you work them in order to keep a close track and not lose your place.
