Hello, you! In my last post, I told you all about the yarn Scheepjes Colour Crafter I am using for my new Nesting Baskets Pattern, as well as those fabulous wooden bases.
Well I have a few glorious WIP pics to show off and I’m super excited to show you, so read on!
I love this first prototype basket already and it is messily housing some Scheepjes Softfun for another awesome project I have coming up.
Crochet Nesting Baskets
I mentioned it in the yarn arrival post, but it bears repeating that this design has been knocking around in my mind ever since I received those awesome wooden bag bottoms.
I really wanted to create a crochet basket pattern that is versatile enough to be used to make 3 of the same size, or make them nesting baskets, and I wanted the design to be plain enough that you can add your own embellishments to it.
I decided to try out some little flowers, buds, and leaves. I like how it turned out! But not sure this will end up in the final design.
Another design I tried involved embroidered text reading “yarn scraps” but it turned out so terrible, I didn’t even get a photo…
I definitely want some sort of 3D design in case you’re wanting to make baskets that will not be nested, and then another more flat design that can be used for nesting baskets.
Shop Colour Crafter Yarn
This yarn is a dream. It’s economical and very durable – which I love – and is soft, squooshy, and luxurious. For a 100% Acrylic DK weight yarn, it is the best one out there. Creating this Design
This yarn is so lush and soft, it’s a total dream. And the yardage – swoon. And just enough halo to be cozy, but not too much to be annoyingly floofy. It’s just perfect.
When held triple, it makes for nice sturdy basket sides, and not too stiff.
Here’s another shot of the first prototype of my crochet nesting baskets.
I do like the reverse single crochet top rim, and that little lip I gave it at the bottom so the lower edge would be crisp.
Here are the little pieces I made in Scheepjes Stone Washed and sewed on. First up is a little improvised French knot type piece. This one needs work! But I do like the effect when it’s sewn on.
Here’s a little flower and leaves. The flower is adapted from the first 2 rounds of the Rose Hexagon from my Happy Little Tree Blanket pattern. The leaves are something I played with. I don’t know how much like leaves they look, and I’ll end up tweaking them I’m sure!
Now for my little rose and buds. The rose is directly from my Happy Little Tree Blanket hexagon, and it’s just the first 4 Rounds. The buds were improvised and I do like them!
Another peek at the basket. You can see it’s quite useful and a great size.
Thanks as always for reading, and happy crafting to you! Can’t wait to share the reveal!
