FO No. 1 of 19: Rainbow Galaxy 2024 VVCAL Blanket

Hello, lovely! Today, as promised in my last post, I am showing off the first of 19 WIP finishes. I truly hope to finish these WIPs this year, but time will tell. In the WIP pile reveal post, I was wondering which WIPs I would start with first, and when it came down to it, I decided to just pick something I knew I would really enjoy. Of course this means it was 1) a rainbow! and 2) hexagon motifs! So, here is my 2024 VVCAL demo blanket using the Catona color pack and the Stone Washed and River Washed color pack. I didn’t use all of the motifs, and this is a throw-size blanket. There were some challenges along the way, which I’ll be sure to mention in case it helps someone out. I’ll be adding in FO pics and links to all of the WIP -> FO blog posts on the WIP pile reveal post.

Major WIP Round-up: 19 projects to finish!

Hello, gorgeous crafter! Today I’m revealing something deeply personal: My enormous WIP pile. I used to be that person who finished every project, but these days, raising four growing kiddoes, writing a book, and trying to find quiet time for my husband and myself, I am more like a person who photographs projects so that they look finished, and then relegating them to the WIP shelf of shame. So, let me bare all, here in this blog post, the 19 projects of my WIP pile. These projects are in various stages of completion, and there’s even an unpublished pattern here! As I finish them, the completed project will be up for sale, and I may group them up into a little sale periodically, so y’all don’t get sick of me peddling my wares. I list the 19 projects below, with a few photos for each one and pattern/yarn information as well, because I know some will be wanting that info. Expect a full blog post with all the details and progress/finished photos as I complete …

A CypressTextiles Year-End Update!

Hello, lovely crafter! It’s been a couple of months since I made a blog post, and so I wanted to make sure I checked in before the end of December. (Narrator: “She did not finish the post in December lol”)… It’s been a very interesting year, and a lot has been going on behind the scenes that I can’t wait to share with you. Enjoy this little 2024 recap celebration of the goings on in CypressTextiles land – thank you for reading! Etsy Success! Sometimes I find I have a tendency to just release patterns and then walk away, to move on to the next artistic endeavor. The joy in my work comes from first, designing, then making, and then sharing, in that order – so often I do rush through the sharing part. I post on my website, I list in the shops, and then head back into my cave and start designing again, which leads to my shops being neglected at times, but this year I had an unexpected surprise in my Etsy …

Fiesta Blanket: A Colorful Crochet Work in Progress!

Hello, lovely crafter! Today I have something special to share with you. I have been working since the holiday breaks on this new blanket pattern project. The pattern will consist of large floral mandalas which are then joined together in a hexagon placement, combining two of my favorite themes in crochet: hexagons and mandalas. I have used Scheepjes Stone Washed and River Washed packs (yarny info below) but you can really use any gorgeous yarns you have. This would make a brilliant stash buster as well. I can’t wait to show you more in this WIP post!

WIP: Heirloom Crochet Blanket in a Red-Lovers Holiday Palette!

Hello, gorgeous crafter! Today, I want to share something that has been knocking around my head ever since I designed the Heirloom Collection Blanket. Of course, the original is made with a palette of blues and white to mimic blue and white pottery, and then the border is in leafy greens as a nod to our plant rooms. But what if it were a holiday blanket instead? OR what if you just love reds and you have red decor – then this version will definitely speak to you! For this sample, I used Colour Crafter yarn instead of the Scrumptious yarn that the pattern calls for, simply because the Colour Crafter has more reds to choose from. I think you will love this one! Scroll ahead to see my work in progress.

My Latest (Fashion-Inspired) Work in Progress!

Hey, gorgeous crafter! Today I have something fin for you! Usually when I have a WIP to reveal, it has been knocking around in my head – and in my sketchbook – for months, and sometimes even years. But today I want to show you progress pics of something I have been rapidly working on for just the past couple of weeks. I was very inspired by a fashion instagrammer and simply had to get sketching and pulling yarn from my stash. In all honesty I have a few designs in the works inspired by her colorful posts! Keep reading to see the inspiration and my project progress photos. Of course the free pattern is coming soon!

Heirloom Collection Blanket: My Latest Work in Progress

Hello, lovely! I recently got some yarn in the mail – always a joy! – and I just have to tell you about it. If you love Colour Crafter then you will love “Scrumptious”, this new yarn from Scheepjes! If you are working up the Colour Lab CAL, you might be trying out the Scrumptious Kit, and if so, you already know how plush and soft this yarn is. If you haven’t used it yet, I recommend giving it a shot! I already have a plan in mind for this yarn, so I ordered specific colors, but of course, I have my Colour Lab CAL Scrumptious demo kit yarn as well, and I just might cook up a smaller project for my leftovers! For now, I wanted to show you the color palette for my upcoming blanket design using the Scrumptious yarn. Read to the end for a sneak peek at my work in progress! Look out for this free pattern on March 3rd! Grab your yarn so you can be ready. Details below!

Working On a Pastel Beauty

Hello, you! It has been a busy week here at CypressTextiles. My Creative Art Blanket Course is now available for pre-order, I launched my Dutch Rose Blanket CAL Reboot, and debuted my Time Traveller’s Blanket in the latest issue of YARN Bookazine. I also started working on a big blanket using all 191 or so of the demo hexies from my 2022 VVCAL, and I will be sharing that blanket in a blog post soon! A couple of weeks ago I told you about a blanket that did not yet have a name, that I was working up using Scheepjes Organicon Yarn. (affiliate link) Originally I thought this would be my 100th published blanket pattern, but then my Time Traveller’s Blanket pattern was published in YARN Bookazine, and that stole the crown of my 100th. Well the unnamed Organicon blanket now has a name – and a few progress pics too. I’m super excited to show you, so read on!

Joy Garden Blanket: A Work in Progress

Hello, beautiful crafter! Hope you’ve managed to find some moments of peace as the months seem to fly by. February is almost over! At this point in the year, I look back to see what I have accomplished so far, and I can say I’m proud of my motivation so far to complete projects and share them with you. If you have followed me for a while, you’ll know I always say it, but during even-numbered years, I am quite manic when it comes to designing and sharing. (Odd-numbered years see me spiral down in an undertow of imposter syndrome and creative paralysis, but that’s a story for another day.) During the past few weeks, I have been utterly obsessed with this current work in progress. I am using a Scheepjes Metropolis Colour Pack (affiliate link) to make a half-hexie braided blanket that I’ve named “Joy Garden.” You can look at the yarny love post to see all the details, and check out a few more projects that you can make with the Metropolis Colour …

Shine Bright Blanket: A Quilt-Inspired WIP

Hey, gorgeous creative! Today I want to reveal more of the work in progress that I am tinkering with in two colors of Scheepjes Metropolis. She finally has a name: “Shine Bright Blanket” – because of the diamonds of course! So far I have really enjoyed all of the positive feedback I have received about this design in progress. I even did some polling for this project to gather opinions on the motifs, but I’ll share more about that later! In this post, I’ll go over all of the behind the scenes progress that has gone into making this piece, from the initial idea and development, to the color layout and composition. Of course I have a lot of progress photos to show you as well.

A Plaid-tastic Blanket Design in Progress

Hey, lovely! Today I want to reveal a WIP that I have had in the works since 2014. Mind you, my design career started in 2012, so this puppy has been waiting since the beginning of my designer days. I was just a fledgling designer! But I had a seed of an idea… And that seed grew into a colorful and versatile plaid blanket. In this post, I’ll go over all of the behind the scenes progress that has gone into making this piece, from the initial idea and development, to the color layout and composition, and down to naming the design. Of course I have a lot of progress photos to show you as well. First let’s talk about how I planted the seed for this blanket, and how it finally sprouted seven years later. Read to the end to take a peek at my Chunky Monkey stash Autumn mantel decoration!

Crochet Nesting Baskets: A Work in Progress!

Hello, you! In my last post, I told you all about the yarn Scheepjes Colour Crafter I am using for my new Nesting Baskets Pattern, as well as those fabulous wooden bases. Well I have a few glorious WIP pics to show off and I’m super excited to show you, so read on! I love this first prototype basket already and it is messily housing some Scheepjes Softfun for another awesome project I have coming up.

Chevronnie Blanket is in Progress!

Hello, amazing crafter! A little while ago I told you about my Chevronnie Blanket that I was had just received yarn for – some fabulous Scheepjes Chunky Monkey. Well the blanket is in full swing, and I was even able to pry myself away from the project and take a few progress pics! I’m super excited to show you, so read on..

LissMiss Crochet Blanket: Reviving a Work In Progress

Hey, lovely! Today I want to reveal a WIP that I have had in the works since late 2013. Mind you, my design career started in 2012, so this puppy has been waiting since the beginning of my designer days. I was just a baby! But I had a seed of an idea… And that seed grew into the LissMiss Blanket, the third blanket in my Linen Stitch Blanket Series. You can now purchase this pattern on Etsy or Ravelry, or see the free version here! Here are the first two blankets: French Braid Blanket Zendoodle Blanket First let’s talk about how I planted that LissMiss seed. My Knitting Days Before I learned to crochet, I was a knitter! You may not have known that, but I taught myself to knit in college – from books, as YouTube was in its infancy – and one of the first things I made was something that I really connected with. I loved the bright, randomized colors and the geometric, striped look. This pattern was the No-Sew Mitered Square …
