You Can Crochet This! Linen Stitch Wash Cloth
Introduction
The Linen Stitch Wash Cloth is a free pattern written specifically to help absolute crochet beginners practice the chain stitch and the single crochet stitch, comfortably hold the hook and yarn, learn to maintain even tension, and more.
Materials
- Scheepjes Softfun (affiliate), or a comparable cotton/acrylic blend yarn that’s smooth and machine washable, since it is a wash cloth!
- Size 4.5mm hook, or the hook that your yarn ball suggests
Stitch Description (US Terms)

Written Instruction
Row 1 Make a slip knot, ch an even amount of sts, about as wide as you’d like your wash cloth to be. Sc in the third ch from the hook, (ch1, sk 1 ch, sc in the next ch) repeat this across to the end, placing the final sc in the final ch, turn.
Row 2 – end (Ch1, sc in next sp) across to end, placing final sc in last ch sp, turn.
Work Row 2 until wash cloth is desired length. When desired length is reached, cut yarn. Weave in yarn tail.
Make it a blanket! Make a longer amount of chains (an even amount), and work back and forth until blanket is desired length.
