3 Ways to Crochet-A-Long in 2017

It’s a new year, in case you hadn’t noticed. I myself am still finishing 2016’s work, so I hardly have that “fresh start,” “new year, new me” feeling.. it’s the same ol’ 2016 me until I finish these projects and move on to the Next Big Thing. About this time last year, that big thing was my Vibrant Vintage CAL. With so many participants and a new square each week, I had a lot of fun keeping busy!

CALs are a beautiful way to make the coming of the new year count. An easy-breezy commitment with a support group net of crafters that paves a surefire road to accomplishment. But this year I don’t have time to run a CAL. I do miss it though, so 2018 here I come 🙂

For now, check out these CALs from some seriously talented crafters that are sure to draw a crowd.

1. Hygge Wrap

Make the gorgeous and elegant Hygge wrap by Kirsten of HaakMaarRaak – available in three color-ways. This is the Scheepjes CAL for 2017 – wow!  It has just the right combination of easy and challenging bits, perfect for a CAL. And just take a look at the photos – my fingers are itching to make this one, especially with the cross-stitch sections.

Here’s the teaser pic with the three different color-ways. Lush!!

And beautiful modeled shot:

2. Temp Blanket!

Rock the popular Temperature Blanket with Susan of The Felted Button. Pick any of her spunky designs and join her in the CAL fun! Don’t want the year-long commitment? Susan advises you to pick a special year and use the recorded temps for a quick make. She used the daily temperatures from her daughter’s birth year to make a gift for her. I love this idea!

My favorite of her patterns that I think would also be great for this CAL is the Basket of Rainbows Blanket. That Border is the perfect final touch!

Make it!! – Check out yarn brands with wide color ranges in different materials, like wool: KnitPicks Palette*, acrylic: Scheepjes ColourCrafter*, or cotton: Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton*.

3. Moogly CAL

Stick with learning more creative ways to granny with the 2017 Moogly CAL. Tamara has curated a very unique mix of forever-free squares that are sure to keep your interest for this lovely make.

Make it!! – She recommends using Vanna’s Choice* or Vanna’s Choice Heather* yarn for this piece. Or a combination of the two! Love it!

Those CALs should keep you on track to at least complete one project this year – haha trust me the only reason I don’t have a pile of WIPs is because I always frog them!! 😂😂 That’s the secret… get rid of the evidence…

****************

And here’s an added CAL bonus: Sophie’s Universe, the sensation of 2015 by Dedri Uys, has been made into a book!! To find yarn packs to make Sophie, or buy the wonderful book – both perfect additions to your crafty shelves – head to the LookAtWhatIMade shop*.

Have fun in 2017 with these lovely CALs! And as always, Happy Crafting!

  1. Thank you for the info on these CALs. I’m sorry to see that you won’t be doing one yourself this year, I really enjoyed Vibrant Vintage last year. I don’t remember if I ever dropped you a line to say thank you for that one, so, Thank You for that one :D, it was an outstanding CAL, and I really appreciate the time you put into giving it to us.

    • Oh, very sweet of you to say! I have a lot of my plate, or you could say, “on my hook” this year, so there are lots of exciting things to come. I have a CAL planned out and ready to go when I do have the time to design it 🙂 Thanks for popping in to say hello!
      Happy crafting,
