Playing With New Yarn
This yarn is just whoa…. it’s one of my absolute favorites. Completely swooning over the color changes, tweedy bits, and thick and thin parts. Absolutely can’t wait to work a piece up with it, and in fact I have something planned!
Here’s a shot of the three color-ways I chose:
My full review of Secret Garden is coming next year alongside a new pattern reveal. Woohoo!
WoolWarehouse also now stocks the gorgeous yarn swift* that I showed off in one of my previous posts! I’ve purchased a swift online before and it was terrible quality – very rickety… this one is sturdy and well made. Yay!
This year for Thanksgiving, my wonderful mom planned a huge eleven-day family vacation. We went exploring through the Disney World parks in Florida, and then off to relax on the beautiful Destin beaches.
Here are some of the photos I took along the way!
And I volunteered to make memory books for all seven kids!! About $1000 later and I have all the materials gathered and photos printed – now to get my scrapbook mojo going… I’ve never made a scrapbook, but there are a zillion ideas for layouts online and goodness knows I have enough materials 😅😅 – I ordered in bulk!!
My concern was having the proper photo size for a 12×12″ page to get enough photos on the page without cutting down and weird cropping. I found an app called “Social Print Studio” that has a few tiny sizes you can print to. They do little squares about 2.8″ and rectangles about 2.1×3.8″, then they do 4″ and 5″ square, and 4×6″ standard size. Also, they do “photo booth” strips with 4 little pics on each strip. (The app has a beautifully crafted interface btw – highly recommend.) Armed with that crucial sizing info, I got to work planning. Here’s what I did:
1. I literally cut out 15 pages (my approximated amount of book pages) and then labeled each page with what I wanted it to feature. For example, “Road trip to Florida” etc.. Then I listed some key elements I knew I wanted, like “map background.”
2. Then I scrolled my photos and found all pics that related to each page topic, and I figured if I wanted it to be printed as a tiny square or a tiny rectangle, or a photo strip. I also planned out larger sizes for really great key photos and printed those through Shutterfly.
3. I filed all of my selected pictures into photo albums on my phone for each print size. This way when I went into the Social Print Studio app, I could just select that album and choose all those photos. It really helped me not to get duplicates, which saved me some money!
So now, all the pics are on their way! I can’t wait to get my hands on them and start cutting and gluing. Maybe I’ll even make a blog post all about it if anyone wants to see a newbie scrapbooker in action!
Moon Landing Blanket
Writing up the freebie pattern for this bad boy this month so I can gift it to my li’l cousin for Christmas 🎄🎄
Eeek! This was on my list for November – I am so behind! Moving along…
You probably already know I’m in the process of writing a blanket pattern book for Interweave! Sooooo thankful for the opportunity! And who knew it would take so long to plow through all those blankets. Must be all these kids around here needin’ raising… lol.. Well, my December is being spent cranking them out as fast as I can to clear a path for all the fun hooky things I have planned for 2017.
That’s my real December… Deadlines!!
AKA: the technology that will break me, I just know it…
I’m starting (from scratch without a lick of training, mind you) to make videos, and it has proven to be frustrating indeed. Determined to use only my iPhone, at least for now, so I’ve got the apps FilMic Pro, iMovie, Splice, and a couple others to see if I can cobble together something worth watching.
When I joined Instagram and started photographing my work, I could’t take a decent photo if my life depended on it.. But over time I got better by picking up little tips here and there along the way. Nowadays I think I’m a pretty good photographer when it counts. Hopefully the same thing will happen with this video business, because it is TOUGH! (For my old brain.)
But I am determined.. And I’ll be attaching all of my videos (behind the scenes, tutorial, etc) to a Patreon.com page.
Look out, 2017! CypressTextiles is coming to the small screen! (That’s me.. speaking it into existence 😝)
