The Creative Mind: Which type are you?

With 7 billion (as of 2012) people on the planet, sometimes it feels like there are 7 billion different personalities… As it turns out though, as speculated by Carl Jung, there are just 16 unique personality types, and once you figure out which personality type you are, your life will make a lot more sense. Have you ever felt… different? I actually believe that every single person has felt different than those around them on some level at some point (introverts and extroverts alike), but knowing your Jung Personality Type unlocks key information about yourself that you were unable to fully understand before. My Jung journey started when I was shocked to find out that my Crochet Mood Blanket (January 2014 post) had very serious colors – pales and darks – instead of the tropical rainbow brights that I generally consider my “soul colors” (or colors with which I feel most comfortable). It seemed that while I dress in brights, and I work with mostly brights, my insides are seriously lacking in saturation… What a total shock to me! …

Square and Triangle Geometric Art

Above is a paint palette, but wouldn’t it look perfect as a blanket? Incidentally, “wouldn’t that look perfect as a blanket?” are the famous last words for me… After I say that, I spiral down toward a crazy world of wild motif design and unusual yarn color selection. This next painting is begging to be made into a fresh, hip blanket made with two-color granny square motifs. There is a link to a two-color traditional type of granny square on the Fresh Stitches blog, but I suggest you convert it to a solid granny by working the DC into the stitches below, rather than in 3DC groups as you would for a traditional granny square. A solid square would look better for this piece. Then, you would make some pure white squares where there is white space in the painting. I love how this is such a modern design – so unexpected. Below is a painting with a heavenly color choice and placement. Solid granny squares would be perfect here. Geometric Lace blanket inspiration below! 🙂 So if you’re at a loss for color inspiration, do an Internet search …

Circle-to-Square Art

I work with mostly geometric shapes in my crochet pieces, and I love to pull inspiration resources from all types of art styles. These paintings are simply begging to be made into Gumball or Textured Circles blankets! The painting below is something that I absolutely will be making into a blanket at some point in my life. My heart aches for that color combination and placement. Whether you use muddy or vibrant colors, there’s sure to be a circle-to-square crochet pattern and a geometric painting out there to inspire you!

Daily Mood Blanket 2014: January

Back to Daily Mood Blanket 2014 Main January 7th: First week complete! I didn’t join the last four squares at this point because I am switching my joining method to a continuous join-as-you-go. (Why didn’t I think of that sooner?! Facepalm..) January 14th: I haven’t updated this post in a little while, although I’ve been making my squares along the way. Here is my progress as of today: (PHOTO) Changes that I have made: 1) I am not necessarily adhering to the color chart that I linked in the main project post, because it felt too much like I was trying to pigeon-hole myself into a certain mood color.. as in, I was reading the moods and sort of selecting one from a menu rather than really picking a color from my gut. PS: YES that is a metallic shiny GOLD on my birthday January 13th – haha! Who doesn’t feel like a rock star on her birthday?! 2) I am joining continuously (here is a link to my tutorial page on that). I did stray from my tutorial pattern in …

Daily Mood Blanket 2014

Here are my daily moods of 2014 by month. I am using the Carey Jolliffe Graphic Arts collection of Pantone Matching System colors – visual aid here – to select my mood color. January || February || March || April May || June || July || August September || October || November || December * * * * * Layout, square pattern, and joining info: When I saw that the Crochet Mood Blanket 2014 project was circulating around Instagram, I felt its strong gravitational pull. Now, there are over 700 people who have signed up to make a blanket that reflects their changing moods through the year. What a wonderful idea this has been! Thank you IG user @mummy_stacey for your work organizing this project. For more information on how color relates to mood (lots of links!), and to join up with the daily mood blanket group, please check out my previous post “Color and Your Mood.” Essentially, for this project I will be creating a square each day with a yarn color that represents my mood. I’ll be …
